I’ve been building homebrewed robots for almost 40 years. I am currently writing a book which will be entitled “Homebrewed Robots!”

My degree is in marketing, so I’m not an engineer. I’m pretty much self-taught. I started selling computers after graduating from “Florida State University” in 1982. I picked up a book by “David L. Heiserman” called “How to Build Your Own Self-Programming Robot.” This book described a homebrew 8085 microprocessor-controlled device that would roam around, sense stall conditions, and exhibit “machine intelligence”. It changed my life.

After making a big computer sale to the local Jr. College, I took my commission check, packed my bags, my robot, and my cat, and moved to Silicon Valley in 1984, the best move I ever made.

The highlight of my life was winning the 1996 Autonomous “Robot Wars.” The second highlight was launching the Neato XV 11 autonomous robot vacuum cleaner. Finally, the third highlight of my life was touching the orange RoboMagellan “goal cone” at RoboGames 2012, where I won the Bronze Medal.

I am obsessed with robot-building and a longtime member of the “HomeBrew Robotics Club.” I want to take over the world with robotic devices that bring stuff, put stuff away, carry stuff, and do the things that we do not want to do. I am a robot-builder who encourages others to participate in the greatest technological revolution in history.
