Overview
How to cook-up a robot using COTS (Common Off the Shelf) items. The biggest hurdle for a beginner is making the transition from a table top platform (Lego, Vex) to something rugged/big enough to do something interesting like Robo-Magellan, or useful, like bringing you an adult beverage. Fortunately, almost all of the items (sans control system) can be obtained from OSH, a hobby shop, and an automotive junkyard. You may have most of what you need in your garage. When using COTS. don't think "plywood" - think "light weight, high strength, layered organic polymer composite.
