Robotics

Christchurch Robotics Group

Richard coordinates the Christchurch New Zealand Robotics Group and has not yet been to an HBRC meeting in person.

If you are travelling down under do call in to see us. We meet on the third Wednesday of every even numbered month in the Science Alive Seminar Room at 7.30pm.

We have a web site http://www.kiwibots.org

Robots

Richard is currently designing and building a range of robot modules interfacing to avr and propeller CPUs. Each module is intended to be capable of being constructed in an evening or two, reliable and low cost. Modules cover CPUs, motor driving, ultrasonic range finding, infra red remote control, infra red range finding, motor speed measurement, loudspeaker and laser drivers. Modules connect to the CPU via servo pin out connectors (ie 0V, Vcc and port pin). Some modules require multiple port pins. Each module may be freely copied under the creative commons license.

The modules once integrated will form the basis of tabletop robots for line following, tabletop challenge and Micromouse.

Non Robotic Interests

Family, gardening, Skiing in the winter, walking, slope soaring model aircraft, and sub aqua in the summer.

Richard moved to Christchurch NZ about 10 years ago from Cambridge UK.

I'm currently working in the field of Private Mobile Radio, and have been working on and off in this field since 1970! I can be contacted via the HBRC mailing list.

Fun Facts

I once competed against an Olympic swimming champion (and lost).
